“Hi, I’m Dave Fisher, owner of Flyin’ Fish Model Helicopter Flying School, which I’ve been running since 1995. I started flying RC aircraft at the age of 8 and picked up my first helicopter—a Kyosho Concept 30—24 years later. From that moment on, helicopters became my main focus, both personally and professionally. My competitive side kicked in quickly, and I began entering heli comps, starting with F3C—precision hovering and aerobatics governed by the FAI. By 2002, I’d earned a place on the GBR F3C team, competing worldwide for 9 years, from the USA to Japan, and consistently placing on the UK podium.
In 2011, after winning my last F3C competition, I transitioned to F3N—the freestyle 3D-focused category. I’d already been dabbling in 3D comps like 3D Masters, the Zone, Helifest, and 3D Championships, so it was a natural move. I’ve won the BMFA British F3C Nationals in 2006 and 2008, and since 2013, I’ve also claimed the Scottish F3N National Championship multiple times.
My relationship with Optifuel began back in 2007 as a consultant during their fuel development. Now with electric power on the rise, OptiPower batteries are my top choice—for my own fleet and for every student who comes through Flyin’ Fish. I especially recommend the OptiPower Ultra-Guard 430 super combo for larger helis (500+ size).
2025 marks my seventh year on the GBR F3N team. At the 2023 F3N World Championships, I placed 8th individually and helped the team win silver. We also won team gold at the European Championships, where I placed 5th. On home soil, I’ve continued to hit the F3N podium every season and finished 2nd at the Nationals this year.
In August 2025, I’ll be heading to Romania to compete at the F3N World Championships as part of Team GBR. For competition flights, I use the OptiPower Ultra Max 5300mAh 6S 100C packs, and when flying nitro, it’s always Optifuel 25% Super SLV.”
