“My name is Björn Dommershausen, and I started model flying exactly 30 years ago. I’m 38 now, and it’s been a long and passionate journey in the RC world.
About six years ago, I got into RC drifting—and I’ve become quite good at it. Just three weeks ago, I was proud to receive a major sponsorship from the Rhino Racing Factory Team, which has taken things to the next level for me.
For over 15 years, I’ve been a FUTABA team pilot. Back in the day, I flew helicopters for robbe (Align) and later for Compass Model, where I was involved in developing several models through extensive test flying. All of this was powered by OptiPower, a brand I’ve trusted from the beginning.
In fact, I’ve been part of the OptiTeam for over 13 years now, and I use their battery packs across all my RC activities. Whether it’s RC drift (1:10 scale) using car packs—some of which have lasted over three years—or RC planes with small 3S packs, jets with receiver packs, RC helicopters with 2x6S flying packs, or even powering my fuel station with 3S packs, OptiPower has always delivered. I’m truly an Opti guy, and I’m proud to represent the brand wherever I go.
When it comes to competitions, in flying I now focus exclusively on “Best of Show” contests and no longer compete in the traditional sense. In drifting, however, I’m fully involved in the competitive scene.
This year has taken an unexpected turn. As of today, I’ve learned that I need a spine operation due to severe back pain caused by a bad accident last weekend. Because of this, my main priority will be to recover properly.
The earliest event I plan to attend is Faszination Modellbau Friedrichshafen, and if I’m fit enough after surgery, I’ll aim to be at JetPower as well. I’m also hoping to participate in the upcoming Swiss Slidewars, and at the beginning of next year, the Clash of the Titans—a major event that’s like the Drift Euro Masters.”
